He is the most honoured servant of Allah for whom Allah sends His highest blessings, because he is the first and the foremost in submission and devotion to Allah. Holy Prophet said:" Say: 'O Allah send blessings on Muhammad and on ali Muhammad) Ah ul Bayt (just as You blessed Ibrahim and ali Ibrahim'.".( Sahih, page 721, volume 3) The recitation of salawat implies that the believers should not worship the Holy Prophet as a deity. When the Muslims asked the Holy Prophet:" How are we to seek blessings on you?" He said:" Say: 'O Allah, send blessings on Muhammad and on the al) children (of Muhammad.". They broke his tooth and forehead, but he did not curse them, but prayed: " My Lord! Guide my people, that they don't know what are they doing." How can one who calls himself a human, respect him not as he deserves, and uphold not his honour, and dignity, by all means? (Commentary Nimunih, Vol5, Page: 671) It is a grave injustice to undervalue such an ocean of Mercy, Kindness, Compassion, Ethics, and Wisdom, or to esteem him lightly.Īnd as a universal Mercy of God, and His Messenger, the prophet came to guide us to our Creator and in this way he suffered great sorrows, and unbearable agonies. He deserves the Greetings and blessings of all the creatures, and in particular that of Mankind, that he was indeed God's Mercy to all the worlds.
The Messenger of God is a precious unique pearl of creation, that Allah and His angels have blessed him. In western countries the expression has morphed slightly into “May rest in peace.” It is the same as "Peace be with you," and is a pleasantry said equivalently to "Goodbye," which incidentally is a (very) shortened form of "God be with you." Literally, it's expressing a wish that whomever is being addressed not be harmed or stressed. In Arabic the full “Assalamu alaikum” is “Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh” السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته - “Peace, mercy and blessings of God be upon you”. Similarly in Hebrew, it’s “Shalom aleichem” שלום עליכם, followed by the reply “Aleichem shalom” שלום עליכם.
